Is it a pear? Is it an apple?

No, its Guayaba-and its so, so good- in every way.

Guayaba (Guava) is in season and our all natural guayaba juice is one of our most coveted treats. We grow the green variety in our orchard and it’s an HZ favorite! This nutritionally dense fruit is rich in vitamin A, folate, fiber, and dietary minerals such as potassium, copper, and manganese.

It also provides 4x more vitamin C than an orange! How’s that for goodness? Its native to Mexico, Central America, and South America but is now grown throughout the tropics in Africa , Asia, and the Caribbean . It can also be found in Hawaii , New Zealand, Australia, and Spain .

There is a long history of the medicinal value of the guayaba tree and its fruit. For instance, many cultures turn to a tea made from guayaba leaves to treat diarrhea, dysentery, and fever. From a distance, the guayaba might be mistaken for a lime. And while the skin is tough, it is edible. The inside of the fruit is white, with edible seeds. Many guests have said it reminds them of a cross between an apple and a pear

Like a pear, some prefer it ripe, while others enjoy it slightly green. Either way, it’s a delicious and healthy treat. When in season, our farm offers a bounty of organically grown guayaba. Come for a visit and enjoy!

A Taste of the Sweet Dominican Life...

Deliciously sweet. Nutritiously filling. Bright and vibrantly full of the perfect combination of yellows and orange. Tender, yet with the right amount of texture. Rich in every way.

It’s no surprise that mangoes are reported to be the most consumed fruit in the world. Native to the tropics, the largest producer of mangoes is India, but there is no doubt that they are enjoyed all over the globe. While the harvest seas on spans May to October, the Caribbean is now enjoying the peak of mango season and the Zapata Farm is blooming with organically grown mangoes ripe for the picking.

Recent hotel guests have been able to savor the sweet nectar of this fruit in the freshly squeezed morning juice and in the colorfully vibrant fruit platters that are a breakfast tradition at Hotel Zapata. With reportedly over 2,000 different varieties, mangoes range in size from a few ounces to as much as four pounds. A nutritionally decadent fruit, mangoes are a rich source of vitamins A, B, C, and E.

They are also high in fiber, antioxidants, potassium, niacin, iron, beta carotene and are relatively low in calories. While most locals might argue that the best way to savor this mouth-watering fruit is sliced and lightly sprinkled with salt, mangoes can (and should be) enjoyed in a variety of ways.

Alternative treats that must be tried include mango smoothies, mango sorbet, or simply mixed with yogurt or vanilla ice cream. Join us at Hotel Zapata and savor the sweetness of a freshly picked mango soon…. it will tickle of symphony a senses that will make your Caribbean vacation even more unforgettable.

Give.Sweat.

Since our inception in 1991, we have been committed to fostering the growth of the Boca Chica community. This motivation has guided our direction and strongly influenced our business philosophy. As a family-run business, we believe in creating as many opportunities as possible for the people of our community to succeed and flourish. We buy from local vendors, we affiliate with local taxis, estheticians, masseuses, and encourage our guests to shop at local stores. We believe tourists should get to know our culture and community, learn about it, and immerse themselves in it. This involvement makes for a more fulfilling experience and beautiful vacation, while strengthening our community.

With this mission in mind, The Zapata Team has created a one-of-kind, innovative, first for Boca Chica, fitness weekend, dedicated to the wellness of body and spirit. Our goal is to attract new tourists to Boca Chica and introduce them to all the beauty it has to offer, while supporting the local community.

Hotel Zapata is proud to introduce Give.Sweat.- a program that offers a weekend filled with invigorating beach workouts, under the direction of famous NYC personal trainer Gerren Liles, AND an opportunity to support the local children, vía Caminante, a local non-profit that serves the neediest and most vulnerable children in Boca Chica.
